Abstract

The Coldplay World Tour 2023 is one of the largest concerts, championing environmental sustainability. This study aims to investigate how intrinsic motivations, such as materialism, hedonic motivation, and fear of missing out, alongside environmental knowledge, influence consumer attitudes toward Coldplay ticket purchases. Background Problems: Coldplay's Music of The Spheres Tour strives to maximize environmental benefits, reducing direct carbon emissions by 50%. However, the precise impact of intrinsic motivations and environmental knowledge on consumer attitudes remains underexplored in this context. Novelty: By employing self-determination theory, this study focuses on concert ticket purchases within the entertainment industry, an area that has received limited attention in research. Research Methods: Using a quantitative approach, data were collected through an online survey. Structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) will be employed for empirical analysis, allowing for a comprehensive examination of the relationships between variables. Findings/Results: Result indicates support for six out of seven hypotheses. Intrinsic factors such as materialism, hedonic motivation, and fear of missing out play significant roles in shaping consumer attitudes toward Coldplay ticket purchases. However, environmental knowledge does not exert a significant influence on consumer attitudes in this context. Conclusion: In the landscape of consumer behavior literature, as environmental consciousness grows, it becomes apparent that intrinsic motivations exert a greater influence on shaping attitudes toward concert ticket purchases. Marketers and environmental advocates should adopt nuanced strategies to promote environmentally sustainable behaviors within entertainment events. Further research is needed to explore additional factors driving consumer attitudes in this context.
