Call for papers for a major project on sustainability in Pakistan
"Advancing Sustainability, Battling Climate Change: Essays, Case Studies and Profiles from Pakistan"
Pakistan is the eighth-most affected country by climate change in the world (Germanwatch Global Climate Risk Index 2021) and much needs to be done to make the large population adapt to the new realities being unfolded.
The domestic sector in Pakistan consumes nearly half of the electricity, and fossil fuels are mainly used for electricity generation. The country is facing climate-related disasters such as extreme temperatures, floods, droughts, water scarcity etc. The government and individuals are putting their efforts to face the climate change situation and focusing on climate adaptation, mitigation and sustainable development. However, most of these efforts are still unrecognized. There is a need to share, exchange and flourish the knowledge related to climate change adaptation, mitigation efforts and strategies; and learn from scientific evidence and experiences.
This book is designed as a compendium of best practices and case studies, interviews/ profiles with prominent practitioners and pioneers in their fields, and essays on achieving climate change adaptation and sustainable development goals in Pakistan. The idea is to gather disparate sources of information and disconnected ideas and practices as well as the best solutions that are being put forward by professionals in trying to achieve sustainability and climate change mitigation and adaptation at the levels of renewable energy, water conservation, farming, architecture and other technologies.
The target audience is the public at large. The book will be in English with summary sections in Urdu (if possible).
